  • CSTD Bridge to Africa Project, Feb 22 to March 24
A member of the Prospero team, Leigh Geraghty, is in Kenya with a small delegation of CSTD (Canadian Society for Training & Development) members on a challenge to address the HIV/AIDS crisis in Africa. Known as the "Bridge to Africa" project, the initiative sent a team of four experienced trainers to Kenya for four weeks to deliver a "Train-the-Trainer" program. The project was initiated in response to a plea for help from Stephen Lewis when he spoke at the CSTD conference in November 8, 2005. The plea was a challenge to members of CSTD to use their skills in whatever ways they could to address the HIV/AIDS crisis in Africa.

On February 22, Leigh and three other volunteers travelled 12,600 km from Toronto to Kenya. The team is equipped with a five-day Train-the-Trainer program developed from the Diploma in Adult Education program at StFX University. Leigh is partnering with Mary Lou Di Paolo to lead three programs in Mombasa, on the coast of Kenya. Alison Alexander and Peter Taylor are up the coast in Malindi.

The six programs have been designed to accommodate a maximum of 12 participants each. Thanks to Youth Challenge International, the Bridge team has linked with Kwacha Afrika who have identified the 72 participants. Kwacha Afrika is a youth community based organizations in the Coast province of Kenya which is very involved in addressing youth issues, especially the spread of HIV infection among youth.
